The saddest puppy.
I thought we should be neighborly and go over to introduce ourselves. Now I sort of wish we hadn't. The wife answered the door and she looked like she was harassed. It's totally understandable since we all know no one enjoys moving. Then she started talking, with a hint of a Valley Girl accent, which made her camouflage clothing all the more confusing to me. She also used eye-rolling like a form of punctuation. Like after I informed her that they were dogs in every apartment in our stairwell. Or that there were about 10 babies in our building (she asked if that 4:00 A.M. cry was originated by ours, which thankfully wasn't). I thought it was weird that she would roll her eyes at the baby info then immediately after volunteered to babysit my child.
Thank you kindly, but HELL NO, ma'am.
Worst of all was that she seemed to be bringing drama and old feuds to our previously semi-peaceful building. On-post housing is a requirement in Baumholder for married soldiers. So now I want you to picture lots of lonely spouses of deployed soldiers, who suddenly find themselves an ocean away from everything they know and love (for the first time ever for some of the younger ones). Now they have to deal with being both moms and dads to kids, who don't understand why their parents have to go away for 15 months, running the household, and dealing with daily hiccups without the help and support of their families and friends back home. Making new friends and maintaining those friendships in this environment shouldn't be difficult as they are all in the same boat, but unfortunately there's always DRAMA. You military spouses know what I'm talking about. It's not like we can get away from each other either since we have to live on top of one another, literally. Apparently, she and another set of new neighbors, who moved in just a few months ago, had some issues with each other at their last place of residence and looked to settle the score here.
Why does this concern me?
My Beloved unfortunately happens to be the building coordinator. Not by choice. We always dread a knock on our door after 10:00 P.M. They expect Wil to referee the arguments and calm the situation before the punches fly and the MPs are called. And since most of the husbands are gone, he would not go into their apartments without me. You see why I'm already exhausted waiting for this to blow? Once again, where is my order?!?
