This edition of Sunday Funnies contains some of tug-at-your-heartstring moments along with the ha-ha ones, but they are still all too precious nonetheless.
It's always quite a scene when Wil pulls up to our driveway at the end of the day. We have an opaque glass front door, so the boys could easily spot his car besides hearing him getting home. As soon as Chase sees the boys sprinting to the front door, our Littlest Mutt jumps in to join the fray. Lemme remind you that Paddy is about 90 lbs, Brutus is more or less 80, and Chase is holding her own at 25-27 lbs depending on how much gummies her father gave her the night before. It's a battle of who can get to Papa first and the baby always ends up somewhere on the floor after getting knocked over. Then she would see a pair of hands reaching for and scooping her up. He always holds her up so they are eye to eye before telling her "I've missed you today!" Hugs and kisses ensue for all three kids and we live happily ever after.
A few days ago after I got Chase up from her nap and put her in her high chair to have an afternoon snack, she immediately asked for Papa. I told her that he was at work, which then prompted her to inquire if her uncle Brad, a.k.a. the Gummie Dealer, and Khun Yai were also at work (she often asks about where Papa and Uncle Brad are but she just recently starts asking where Yai works and we're taking it as a learning opportunity to teach her where Bangkok is). I told her that they all were at work, however on different continents, and she took a little time to digest the answer before looking up at me with the most serious face and said "miss Papa." I asked her again to repeat what she said, and she pointed to her chest and said "miss Papa." I assured her that he was going to be home in a few hours and was thankful that I was there when she felt a little lost and could get Wil on the phone so she could hear his voice.
When I came home yesterday from taking Brutus to an obedient training class, Wil told me that she had been telling him "miss Momma!" while I was gone. She's also been telling me "miss Yai" or "call Yai" every single day. Skype soon, Mom?
On Friday while we were driving to Chase's first Moms n' Tots Gymnastic class, Chase was apparently cracking herself up with all the jokes she was telling one of her dolls in the backseat.
Chase: Ha Ha!
Me: What's so funny?
Chase: Chase funny!
Me: That you are my dear.
Chase: Momma funny. Momma mo(more) funny!
Me: Thanks, kid.
I spotted my purse laying on the floor with an obvious sign that someone had been rummaging through it when I heard thundering foot steps coming toward me.
Chase, holding something in her hand: Chase happieeeeeee!
Me: That's great, Honey. What's in your hand?
Chase, thrusting a small package of Sweet Tarts in my face: Chase HAPPY!!!
Me: Just because you found candy in my purse, doesn't mean you get to have it.
Chase, jumping now: MOMMA! CHASE HAPPY!!!
Whenever we try to tickle or kiss her when she really doesn't want to be smothered, she will say "no, no, naughty Momma(Papa)!!!" The same goes for the boys if they give her unsolicited kisses.
Chase, upon seeing a picture of Wil holding a baby Brutus: Baby bear!!!
Given that a few weeks ago, he was a brown hyena, a baby bear is most definitely a step up.
Whenever Wil asked how many gummies Chase wanted, she always replied "two!" Since then, he laid out for her to see on a plate what 2 gummies VS 5 looked like, so now she would come running to me from the kitchen yelling "FIVE GUMMIES!!!" She's also added 3 and 4 to her counting repertoire this week, so sometimes we get a request for 3 gummies, although not so much for 4, as well.
We're working hard on learning alphabets, numbers, and colors, and seizing every opportunity to interject a little lesson. For example, while Chase was on a changing table:
Me: Hey, Chase, how many eyes do you have?
Chase: One!
Me: What about your other eye?
Chase: Two!
Me: How many ears do you have?
Chase, catching on: One...two!
Me, thinking that it's time for a curve ball: How many noses do you have?
Chase, sticking each of her index finger up her nostrils: Two!
Playing hide and seek with Chase is constantly hilarious. First she will announce "Chase hide," and run away. The problem comes after she finds a hiding place, because she'll sit there and go "ooohhhh, Chaseyyyy, ohhhhhh, Chaseyyyyy???"
And just now when she wanted Wil to come play with her in our bed:
Chase: Come, Papa, bed!
Wil, laying on the floor: Ok, can you help me up?
Chase, after pulling, pushing, and tugging on Wil's hands and clothes to help him up: Papa stuck. Come, Momma, bed!
Happy 26th Valentines Day!

These are precious, Uma. The miss Papa one is so sweet... and how he lifts her up.
ReplyDeleteLove these! Hope you are keeping a journal to give to Chase with them :).
ReplyDeleteThese were the heart warming kind of stories! I love reading these and getting to know little Chase from across the ocean.
ReplyDelete"Momma Funny!" I have to agree with that one, great writer, funny momma!
Those are so sweet! You had me laughing and tearing up especially with the one where she misses Papa. So cute!
ReplyDeleteawww. Love all of them. My favorite is the Papa Stuck, Mama come.. hilarious. They quickly learn how many is 2, 3 , 4 etc when it comes to candy, huh? :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't this just the greatest age?! I love it! We need to get our little funny bunnies together again soon.
ReplyDeleteShe's just too darn cute, Uma. I can totally relate to the coming home story with both my kids fighting for attention, but at least I only have two and the Tobster is only 50+ lbs unlike your big boys. As for the jokes, well hearing your stories is good prep for the coming months when little miss Abby really starts turning the mostly jibberish she's speaking now into actual words. :-)
